Mashatu Euphorbia Camp

Mashatu Euphorbia Villas are located in one of Botswana’s unique wilderness’s, the Mashatu Game Reserve located within the Northern Tuli Game Reserve. The 8 Villas are to be situated on an elevated ridge overlooking the Majale River, with magnificent views to the savannah beyond. The camp itself is set within a forest of ancient Euphorbia trees. The Euphorbia camp will pay homage to its location with a distinctive and sophisticated design language informed by the local fauna and flora whilst remaining respectful to its environment. This will be achieved by the creation of an iconic architectural form inspired by the local Mopane pod, whilst receding into its natural environment thus retaining the raw beauty of the site.

The footprint of the chalets are designed to maximise the breathtaking views of the surroundings whilst creating private, luxurious spaces for the guest. The architectural design will extend internally with the pod shaped roof structure exposed to create a seamless integration between interior and exterior. A combination of craft and comfort and a distinctive design idiom will enhance the unique experience of the location and the spirit of the bush experience.

Inspiration from adventure equipment and safari luggage are characterized in the use of canvas, leather strapping and belt clips. Handmade techniques including leather lacing, carved timber and beaten copper using local materials such as natural timber, copper and agate will create unique furniture and fittings. The intention is to create as little impact on the site as possible, and this will be further complimented by making use of green technology such as thermal insulation, solar and grey water recycling systems.
